Lucky Find #10!

We have now lassoed 10 lucky finds! Before the grand unveiling of #10, let's take a quick look back at the previous 9!

1. Talvi the bright chestnut Riding Finnhorse mare

2. Mariette the seal brown Groningen mare

3. Torridon the light grey Highland Pony stallion

4. Montego Bay the sooty bright palomino Jeju stallion

5. Clavius the sooty bright strawberry corn roan Heavy Draft Breton stallion

6. Shamrock the chestnut Irish Sport Horse mare

7. Herschel the bright strawberry corn roan Dutch Draft stallion

8. Moonrise the linebacked bay Poitevin mare

9. Chuckles the golden bay Modern Wurttemburg stallion

The Jeju moved on because he was too small to ride and had the stubborn leader persona, but the others have all stayed. <3

Now on to #10! We found him while riding around a black sands biome! Can you pick him out?

A.

B.

C.

D.

E.

Choice made?

The lucky find was...

 *drumroll*

E!

He's a Hokkaido Pony! As you may have guessed from the name, these hardy ponies hail from Hokkaido, which is the northernmost main island of Japan. He's also our third corn roan lucky find, though the corns are fainter due to his buckskin base than they are on our strawberry drafties.

Since he's only 12.3 hands, we aren't surprised his performance metrics are run-of-the-mill. Still, he's large enough to ride! He doesn't like crowds (don't blame him) but otherwise should make a pleasant mount.

Unexpected bonus: he paces! What a cool little guy!

Wow, we sure have had a good representation of types in our first 10: 3 ponies, 4 light horses, and 3 drafts! We feel extra lucky that none have been super ornery and that only one of the ponies was too small to ride.

Speaking of lucky, remember how we found all those cool wilds on Mom's birthday? Well, in the end we managed to convince Lily that we each should keep one. So we did. <3 Let us introduce you to:

Tuesday

Hawthorn

Kite

Harandra

I think they are all so special! It makes me so happy that my sisters agreed. =)

No luck yet finding the right mare for Kite, and it's not from lack of looking. We did, however, find one last stallion at the end of May near our ranch that also deserves mentioning. (We never knew until horsie sense how many wilds hung out nearby our ranch! Seems like at least half the time we visit the sparkles appear.)

Meet "Zanzibar!"

He reminds us a bit of Ossagon, probably because of the mane. He also has one pale eye and one brown eye like Showtunes and is rocking extensive speckled markings.

Even though his genetic stats aren't anything to get excited about, he's quite speedy, and he jumps and turns pretty well too.
He also has a nice mid-range personality, with the exception of his extreme antisocial-ness. It makes me wonder what he was doing so close to our ranch to begin with...

*Shrugs* We're just glad he was! He'll make a great exploring buddy.

He didn't really look like a "Zanzibar" to us, so he has been renamed "Bracken." (Maybe it's just because we found him in the rainforest, but something about him reminds us of ferns.)

  1. I thought it was turquoise! lol!

I don't know anything about Hokkaido ponies, will have to look that one up, i've never heard of that breed before.

Wow you sure have been lucky with your lucky finds! You have some very nice horses there. I especially like Talvi, Marriette, Torridon, Moonrise and Chuckles. (Highland ponies are one of my favourite native breeds).
I'm so happy to see you kept that little pinto mare she's a beauty.

  2. Ha ha, I think if I'd had to guess, I'd have gone with Foxtrot! Hokkaido Ponies were not on my radar either. I don't think I ever had one on HI2.

I love Highland Ponies too! I am also quite fond of Dales, since my first HI2 equine was one, and Connemaras. :) Sadly, I don't think I've ever seen any of the 3 in person.

Yep, the pinto mare stayed! <3 Since I'd just finished "Out of the Silent Planet," and since I thought she had a bit of an otherworldly look to her (I think it's her face?), I named her after the high country on Mars/Malachandra.
