Pass the Salad

Hello, August, and goodbye, Camp Western!

As it turned out, 4 weeks was sufficient time for us to meet our event goals.

We opened 60 chests, enough to impress the renegades, well before the end of camp. (Thanks, YouTuber Minatozy! We wouldn't have done it without your daily guides!) The reward was pretty anticlimactic, though:

Whoo, a red renegade mask that resembles a Covid mask. Forgive us for not jumping with joy. It's worth quite a few Jorvik shillings, so we may end up selling it. (I doubt we'd ever use it...)

Thanks to our daily participation, we amassed more than enough tokens to take home everything we wanted from the western and beach-themed token shops. These items will be much more useful, especially the bitless bridles. We're definitely set now anytime we feel inspired to ride Western for a change of pace.

Talk about dangerous chores!

We also successfully took home a whopping 4 new pets! This means we now have more pets than equines!

Again thanks to YouTube, the quests to locate and win over an event-specific cat and dog went quickly and smoothly. Both required tokens and gold nuggets, naturally, but also a few other things we never would've come up with on our own.

The cat, Kerfuffle, had climbed up an apple tree in the wolf-infested orchard and was won over by a tiny purple vest, a horse lure, and the presence of one of the wandering ranch horses.

(also note sneaky wolf, who is about to get sprayed with a beast repellent, and rather dense cow that likes to chill here)

Amusingly, there's another glitch going on. When a pet pops out of the saddlebag, it doesn't disappear from the saddlebag. Hence, temporary duplicates!

(And sorry, Frostflight. I hope the shovel glitch is fixed soon.)

The dog, Atlas (yes, the same one who enjoys hanging out with the wolves, bears, and bull), was won over when Clara lured the bears out of the den and then presented him with a bottle of beast repellent and a tiny renegade bandana.

Since we had well over the requisite amount of gold nuggets by mid-week 4, we went for the chickens too. Because why not? We had no other use for the gold nuggets.

Meet Nugget and Gold Digger!

Gold Digger. As she's demonstrating here, the chickens frequently flap up out of the saddlebag and then land back inside. Such drama queens!

When out of the saddlebag, chickens follow Clara around just like the dogs and cats. <3
Goodness, this game is going to make us all want to go vegetarian.

Little did we know, it wasn't necessary for us to have been as diligent of camp participants as we were: we ended up with extra tokens and gold nuggets. Since they don't sell for much, we plan to squirrel them away in hopes they'll be useful next year.

Before we move on, though, enjoy these screenshots of some memories made along the way.

Sheep and cows weren't glitchy during this event, thank goodness.
All the ones we found were successfully herded back to Mary.

Our strategy for getting where we needed to in the wolf den frequently became to get as many wolves to chase us as possible as we galloped breakneck through it. Once they'd all given up the chase and temporarily vanished, we'd circle back and snag the chest while there were fewer wolves to avoid.

As I've said, the terriers have no fear of the beasties!

The wandering horses only seemed to be consistently in the same 4 spots as the YouTuber's guide if we didn't do any logging off and back on during the session. Once we learned this, we had much less trouble! We'd find them all first thing before moving on to other tasks.

Would you dare open this one? XD

Playing follow the leader with a foal was one of the more fun chores. It was tricky to rotate the camera to see him and still ride where you were supposed to, though, as you can see.

This seems incredibly dangerous, but none of the horses bat an eyelash.

That APH seems awfully pleased with himself.
Also, "Turtlelord"? *Applauds*

The potential nugget yield from a single boulder was increased for the final week, the main reason we were able to afford the chickens.

Ahh! No, APH! Wandering horses will literally pass through fire in pursuit of those tasty lures.
Good thing everybody is impervious to fire on this game!

See ya, wandering horses. Please stop wandering.

See ya, Lisa and Josh. It's been fun.
