A Mysterious Lucky Find

This Saturday, we're in a low spot on our roller coaster ride of the winter to spring transition: it's currently 18 degrees with a thin layer of snow on the ground. It also ranks super low on our scale of Saturday awesomeness because we lose an hour overnight. The transition from EST to daylight saving time sucks.

Last Saturday, March 5, was drastically different. It ranked way higher on the scale of Saturday awesomeness. Not only because it made it into the 60's here for the first time in months (kind of freaky, but we rolled with it), but also because we lassoed our first lucky find of 2022!

Can you guess which of these wild horses was the lucky find?

A.

B.

C.

D.

E.

F.

G.

H.

Have you made your guess?

Are you sure?

Alright!

The answer is G.! (All of the others were cool grades we caught in February and early March.)

Since we already have a Capricorn in the herd, we immediately changed his name to Pisces to minimize any confusion. ;^)

He has a rather low genetic stat total for a lucky find, and he's not an especially agile guy for a warmblood either.

He's also skittish, so despite his appearance, I don't think he will be bummed out that we rarely compete. We were so relieved that he isn't ornery enough to buck!

Here is Pepsi riding him for the first time:

We really like the stage of grey he is in, with those faint dapples on his hind end, so he also received an infinitum amulet on his lasso date. We're guessing he has 2 copies of the grey gene, because he is only 6.6 years old and already very pale.

Because it's super cute, here's what he looked like as a "sooty ebony black" newborn:

And here he is as a 4-year-old. (Not a particularly attractive stage in the greying process.)

The expert labeled him "Westphalian Horse," but he doesn't really look like one of those.

We've seen other players talk about re-identifying horses that come up as "Westphalian" in the past, so we suspected this guy was actually something else.

We looked through all the breeds mentioned in the "Allowed Purebreeding" list on the Westphalian Horse page next, but none of these were a great fit either.

Stumped, we re-identified him under "Best main breed match (Skip sub breeds)" and... *drumroll* Orlov Trotter came up. That's definitely not what we were expecting, but it explains why he is not a fantastic jumper...

Mystery solved, but I wish we had just left it alone. Talk about incredibly unfortunate timing...

It is fun how much he looks like Tchaikovsky and Tesseract, our HI2 Orlovs, though:

This post has plenty of white, in honor of this being our last post of official winter. We're now going to add in some green and orange in honor of St. Patrick's Day coming up next week. Enjoy these fun shots of Mom's chia pet's progress.

Here's the photo on the box:

And here's what we actually got:

You're only supposed to spread seeds on the inside of the pod, but the recommended quantity on the instructions ended up being way more than would fit, so Mom ended up covering the whole pod... and still had too many.

Sadly, the seeds she put on Grogu's head did not sprout. (Too dry up there, apparently, despite twice daily misting.) Not that you could really tell after awhile, as he ended up totally hidden by the foliage anyway. It's not looking so great now - starting to grow some mold - so guess it's time to start over and try just seeding the proper areas. XD)

  1. Hey I'm back! (PukkaPixie). Haven't been able to play for months because the computer was being used for a bunch of legal stuff (long story). Lost a lot of horses, most that are left are too old to breed, so pretty much starting over.
When I logged on Sunday, you were online too! Unfortunately didn't know how to send a pm, so went to a few of the invite things hoping to run into you.

I guessed Capricorn! He's the most normal looking conformation wise lol! I managed to breed a Westphalian, will have to check him when he gets older.

Did you have any issues with the update? I cant zoom in or out anymore, so using the map is fun. XD Also can't open the training menu so can't do any affinities. The suggested advice is to delete and reload the game, but people are having even worse problems after doing that, so I think I will hold off for a while.
Hope to catch you in game soon. (Not with a lasso, that would be silly).

    1. Hi PukkaPixie! Warm welcome back! Wow, that must be some story!

I was bummed that you moved your ranch to some undisclosed location so that I could never visit! And more bummed when you seemed to have disappeared from the game! Sorry to hear you lost so many horses, but on the positive side, you’ll have lots of room now for cool wilds!

Well done picking out the lucky find! Yeah, I suppose he does look the most “normal,” though from a distance as I was lassoing him, I had no idea he was special. =)

Ugh, your issues after the update sound annoying! I hope they get fixed soon! I haven’t noticed anything yet, knock on wood. It may have helped that I was too busy to even log on the first few days after it happened. My laptop’s trackpad was having major issues both in game and off before the update and still is now, which makes it hard to tell what might be game hiccups and what’s just my trackpad being squirrel-y. Time to invest in a wireless mouse, I guess.

I hope to overlap with you on the game soon! Now that I know to look for you again, I will, ha ha. I’m less likely to be on while you’re awake on weekdays now, but there’s still a decent chance on weekends!

  2. Seems a lot of people are having trackpad issues. Everytime I log onto the forum there are more and more bug reports, so something has probably gone wrong big time somewhere. Some people can't access the game anymore, so I guess I'm lucky in that respect.

This week I unlocked horsie sense, which has made mail runs much more interesting, and I don't know how, but I managed to snag a really nice smoky cream brindle thoroughbred Colt from the auction for 136 gold.
I still have barns at the old location if you want to see him.

    1. It would be so sad not to be able to access the game anymore! Those poor players. :( I have noticed the same sorts of things in the forums and feel so fortunate not to be in the same boat.

Congratulations on unlocking horsie sense! It does make mail runs much more eventful, I agree. It amazed me how many horses I was riding near without ever noticing.

Fireside and I visited your old ranch site today, and sure enough, I can still view your horses. For some reason, I had it in my head that there was pretty much nothing left there, but I was wrong. XD

I love your new colt, Nevada Star! I do not visit the auction house much, but that seems like a steal for such a nice horse! Good work! =D Also, your colt Xenga is super handsome. I will have to check back later to see what he looks like full-grown.

While I was on your old island, I found a super cute pinto wonderland pony. (Another silver, ha ha.) I'm very tempted to keep him. <3 You'll probably see him featured in my next post.
